Biarritz and Anglet breaks are a short car journey away from the h2o holidays house.
Anglet
Anglet
can hold bigger waves in various spots and there are often a number of
surfing comps being held on one of the breaks. These include La Barre,
Les Cavaliers and la Chambre d’Amour. Good parking up and down all the
spots, although some places are for vehicles under 2 metres, these
breaks are about 25 mins away by car.
Biarritz
Biarritz
is known as the birthplace of European surfing and one of the first
tourist resorts in Europe , it is totally different to the breaks to
the north, a series of small bays and craggy rocks scatter this part of
the coastline.
Le Grande Plage is right in the centre of town by
the Casino, lots of surf comps held here. Can be really crowded all
times of year. Best on mid tide.
The Cotes Basques is the next
real break to the south, again a lot of surf comps are based here, use
the channel at the north to get out, can get crowded in peak season and
weekends but a good spot.
Marbella and Milady beaches are more
south still, follow the signs to Bidart and park near the Aire de
Camping, best on low to mid tide and can handle a good size swell
before closing out. Good showers and toilets.
